Day 37-39 July 13-15 Undara-Normanton (450km)-Gregory Downs 300km

We left Ungara and headed for Normanton for a nights stop. We then continued our journey west along the Savannah Way and stopped for lunch at Leichhardt Falls. The journey was mainly on a dirt track, but the conditions were good. There were lots of cows.

At times the road was very straight

There were many river crossings like this one...you could imagine how impossible it would be to get through here in the wet season...good thing for us it is the dry season.

We saw lots of these ant hills along side of the road as we travelled along the Savannah Way

Another traveller found a dead freshwater crocodile floating in the river so we all had to have our picture taken with it like "Crocodile Dundee" !!

Leichhardt Falls

Lunch

We made mud paint and left our hand prints on the rocks...

We stopped at Gregory Downs for the night. This is on the original track that Burke and Wills travelled on their expedition in search of a inland route to the Gulf of Carpentaria.

We stayed right next to the Gregory River and had so much fun rafting down the river on our boogie boards....we could have stayed there a week. There were some local Aboriginal boys swimming too and Sullivan and Jules had fun playing with them in the river.

The river was great for swim training...it was like swimming on a treadmill...a great workout!!

Rope swing

Nudie swing!!

Great place to have breakfast.
