Bruny Islands

After a rest and good scrub (bodies and clothes) in Hobart we continued on our adventure and headed to Bruny Islands south east of Hobart. There is a short 20 minute ferry ride to get over there. The islands are home to many bed and breakfast places, oyster farms, an artisan cheese factory, the most southerly winery in Australia and some great camping places.
On the vehicular ferry to Bruny Islands

This is driving along the beach at Cloudy Bay heading to our campground. Cloudy Bay is at the south end of south Bruny Island. It is a great stretch of flat sand and easy to drive on. A 4 wheel drive is recommended to get to the campsite, but many were doing it in normal vehicles. We all thought it was great fun to be driving on the beach.

Campfires were allowed so that meant marshmallows most nights!!

It was a great place to put in the Kayak.

Of course the boys loved driving on the beach with Dad.

Much time was spent creating beautiful drawings in the sand.

The "Neck" as it is called. The isthmus that joins North and South Bruny Island. It is also home to a large fairy penguin colony.

Jules took this picture.
Jules and a fairy penguin.
The park ranger gave a talk about the fairy penguins and had a mounted one for us to look at. After the sun went down we started looking for the penguins coming in from sea to get back to their nests and babies. Soon we began to see lots of penguins marching up the beach to the call of their hungry babies. It was an amazing sight.

Making dams in the creek run off water.

Sullivan has a go at driving.

Sullivan was the master helper for directing me back to hook up the trailer.

He could get me right under the pin!!
